Yamina Nater's Profile
A Little about Me
Hello, I am currently trying to figure out what the next step in my path is and I figure the best way to do so is to see as much of the world and become a part of the community I most identify myself with. I am very interested in sustainable living. I would like to eventually live off-grid.
Why I Build Sustainably
It is a lifestyle I would like for myself. I think the idea of living off the grid and with purpose it beautiful. I am currently selling most of my belongings on ebay trying to shed the consumerist lifestyle. I would eventually like a tiny, sustainable home of my own.
Skills I would like to Work on or Share.
I am great with children, have excellent people skills, I'm good with languages, try to stay as active as possible (hiking, skating), I am a very fast learner and not a quitter.
My Life Philosophy
I am a vegetarian transitioning to vegan. I am also transitioning from store-bought goods to homemade. I am trying to live as purposefully and fully as possible. I have a lot to learn and I think that by meeting new people and seeing how they live I can learn more about myself and how I want to live.
I do not have experience but I am a fast learner and a hard worker.
My Building Qualifications
None I would be interested in eventually taking an Earthship course. First I would like to travel a bit though and see what it out there.
I currrently work with children on the autism spectrum and as much as I love the kids I am less enthusiastic about the approach taken to educating them. I am interested in learning about the environmental effects on children on the spectrum (food, skincare and medicine).
What I Read, Watch, and Listen to
My favorite movie is Wall-e, I like Wes Anderson films, Tim Burton, Michel Gondry, love terrible super hero flicks (obsessed with Avengers). My favorite author is Neil Gaiman ( I am a fan of all things whimsical), I like Chuck Pahluniuk. And my favorite tv show is Doctor Who though I find I can relate much better to the Mindy Project.
Building Styles I'm Interested in
Local Materials (ie Sustainable Wood)
I would like to learn all about different types of sustainable living as see which I am better suited towards. It all fascinates me.
I majored in classical studies and did a post bac year in the same. I needed a break from school though and now I work in the ABA field (with children on the spectrum)
My Eating Habits
I have finally reached the point in my life where enough is enough, I have found that I no longer want the things society feels I should want (big house, family, ring on my finger) and I would much rather live a simple, easy life. I don't want a mortgage or massive credit cards bills. I want a tiny house on the beach or a cottage in the woods where I can live quietly. I would like to work in something I truly love, all natural skin care interests me as well as healthy eating. I want to escape the rat race and enjoy my life. Joining this community is a huge first step. As well as taking time off to travel and see the world.
